Research, Conferences, Internships, & Presentations

Two of the strongest additions to any resume, curriculum vita, or graduate school application are research and conference presentations. Contained in these pages are links to summer internships, help with starting research projects, information about past department research, and calendars of conference dates.

One of the strongest assets of the E&H Psychology Department is the focus on individual research. The process usually starts with either a 285 course in which students assist professors and other students with research projects or with 211, the department's research methods class in which all students design and conduct a research project. Junior and senior level students often take a 460 independent study, and many seniors interested in graduate school opt to take a 490 Senior Project in which they conduct a full research project. Please see our classes & catalog page for more information about these courses.

Many students who are just starting a research project may be looking for a little help on where to get started, from finding sources to writing in APA format. Our rookies page has several links and tips that can make the process a little easier.

Some students look for good internship opportunities for summer months, and our internship page contains links to local and national opportunities to conduct research in university labs, work in hospitals, and study advanced statistics.

After students finish research projects, many are interested in publishing them or presenting them at a conference. Our presentations page has tips on how to design effective Power Point presentations, getting published in scholarly journals, past research done by our students, and calendars of conferences that undergraduates are encouraged to attend.
