Facilities
The Emory & Henry College Memorial Chapel houses a new 24-rank pipe
organ, completed by Randall Dyer in 1997. The organ takes advantage of
French nomenclature and French terrace design in the console. In addition
to the standard pipe organ accessories, it is equipped with the latest
technology, including an MC-200 micro-processor relay and combination
system, 9-level combination memory, full MIDI and computer interface,
piston sequencer, transposer pistons and record-playback piston.
The college owns eight grand pianos, including six Steinways . During
the 2001-2002 concert season, the college presented a five-concert series,
officially dedicating the new Model "D" Concert Grand, which
was given as a gift by the Wilbur Smith family of Bluefield, VA, in memory
of Margaret Gatherum Smith.
The piano lab used for group piano lessons consists of nine Roland electronic
MIDI-capable keyboards. Other equipment in the department includes advanced
music printing software, a MIDI sound sequencer, and digital recording
equipment.
